Walls

Use paint box shades for a cheerful environment. Alternatively, set off pale walls with more intensely colored woodwork. Simple stylized murals or stencil designs are perfect for young children and are easy to paint over when the child develops more mature tastes.

Set aside some wall space for a soft board to create a display area for artwork, photos, and mementos. Consider a wall-mounted blackboard or even part of a wall painted with blackboard paint to provide room for creative scribbling. White melamine board supplies another excellent surface for children to draw on with washable felt-tipped pens. Most children go through a stage when they are completely entranced by a cartoon character or storybook hero. Bear in mind that such enthusiasms are often fairly short-lived. A paper border, duvet cover or poster featuring the flavor of the month isn’t as dominating as wallpaper, and is economical to replace a later date.
